← Back to List
Maybe you've been considering starting a polyurea coating business. Or you're looking to protect your vehicle fleet. Maybe you just want an extra protection to a secondary or primary containment structure. Whatever the case may be, you've been doing your research and you just can't seem to come up with the answers to pressing questions.

We're here to help! Here are a few frequently asked questions we receive from current and potential customers about polyurea coatings.

What is Polyurea?

Before using the material, you need to know what it is. The definition of polyurea is “polymeric elastomers whose repeat unit is a substituted urea.” In short, it is a plural component polymer which can be sprayed on a surface to be used as a coating. It has various types of uses, from truck bedliners to spray foam insulation to a secondary containment system.

How Do I Install a Polyurea Coating?

It's best to get a professional to install your coating because it can be difficult if you've never used a proportioning system before. To sum the process up, the chemicals will need to combine in order to create the coating. You will then spray in an even coat over the surface. You have to make sure that the spray is even on the surface -- otherwise, you can run into some serious problems.

But remember to stay safe!

How Long Does it Take to Cure?

That's the beauty of polyurea coatings -- it can take no longer than a day to cure! In some instances, you may have your surface coating cured in only a couple of hours -- much quicker than other coatings like epoxy.

Can the Coating be Repaired if Damaged?

Actually, in many cases, your surface will be damaged before the coating is! Polyurea coatings are extremely strong and versatile. It is impact and scratch resistant -- so little every damage will not harm your coating.

Of course, not everything is indestructible. If the coating is subjected to extreme wear and tear then yes, the coating may be damaged. But all it takes is applying a new coating and you'll be right as rain!

Will Harsh Chemicals Damage the Coating?

That's the beauty of polyurea coatings -- it can withstand a lot of abuse. Chemicals such as brake fluids or gas, water damage, even bacteria will not hurt the coating. Rest assured your coating will protect the material underneath.
